Ray Dunmeyer
Born in Harlem, New York, Ray Dunmeyer was diagnosed with glaucoma, a serious eye disease, at the age of 11.
He took an extra class in school to learn to adjust to his resulting blindness, and it was from this special education
teacher, also a master in Judo, that Dunmeyer gained his interest in Judo. His talent in the sport has now made
him one of the best in the world. How do we know? In 1992 he finished 4th at the Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain.
He competed in the Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1998, and won a silver medal at the Tokyo Open, a major
international competition for the blind, that same year.
Right now Dunmeyer is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. in his weight category, 178 lbs. He has been an employee of UPS for three years.
