Karlene Haughton, a native of Jamaica, moved to the United States in 1991 and soon transferred to
St. Augustine University where she became captain of the track and field team, leading them to
second place victory in the NCAA Division II National Championship. After graduating with
a degree in Sociology, Haughton then turned professional and moved to Canada to train.
Her wins are impressive: Two bronze medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, fourth
place in the 1999 Pan Am Games in the 400m hurdles, and seventh in the same event at the
IAAF World Championships in Spain. Haughton, 27, joined UPS in 1999.
